Run To The Father (Like A Child)

Hey you. Some months ago, I witnessed a common scene occur but something about this time triggered a light bulb in my head. God, in His kindness, used it to speak to me about the safety of standing in sonship and I’m here to share that with you.

To be honest, I had no idea what to write about today, but I sense this is the one… someone needs this. I’ll be short today(I mean it this timerelatively), it’s a pretty short and sweet message. I hope that it speaks to your heart at least as much as it spoke to mine. I also pray it gives you the courage to take your place in your relationship with our Father and Lord Jesus. He’s ABBA. You, my friend, are a child of God, and that comes with perks. You do not need to live beneath your privilege. Okay, without further ado, let’s get into it!

It was on a beautiful Sunday, right after church service, I stood in the lobby of my church waiting for my shared ride to head back home. Around me, there were church members and staff scurrying around, clearing up the auditorium and saying good-byes in little cliques, in typical fashion. It was one of my first times at that church, and despite the people being so warm, my introverted nature had me standing awkwardly, twiddling my fingers on my phone while eagerly waiting for my co-riders to be ready. In a moment, my eye fixated on this beautiful toddler(I was probably blushing like an idiot as usual lol…something about the kids mahn). She was a little baby girl and her mum was standing not far off from her. Suddenly, I heard her let out a loud abrupt cry… it seems something may have frightened her, or she got a little sad. Following that cry, she quickly turned around, scurried fast and latched unto her mother’s leg. It was so simple. It wasn’t this wild, special occurrence, but I cannot explain the warm thrush I felt go through my head, heart, hands and belly when I witnessed that. The Holy Spirit was speaking and my body was responding…chills.

Her immediate reaction to fear, or danger, or whatever emotionally overwhelming feeling she had was to run to her mother, her nurturer, her protector and her defender, cry out and cling tight. It happened so fast that it seemed to be a thoughtless, muscle-memory type reaction. That little girl had faith and confidence in her mum, and this has probably been backed by her track record. She knew her mum would care for her and cater to her; She knew where she could find comfort. In that instant, I was reminded of Jesus’s charge for us to come to Him like little children. He had just shown me a very practical and vivid demonstration of what that looks like – Humility, trust, faith and dependence.

In Mat 18:3-4, Jesus said to His disciples “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” In the subsequent chapter, He says “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”{Mat 19:14}.
In these scriptures, Jesus explicitly communicates that the trait of humility, as seen in children, is a requirement to inherit the kingdom of heaven. And remember, the scripture says that the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy ghost {Rom 14:7}.

Righteousness, peace, joy in the Holy ghost – these are characteristic of the Kingdom of God. Today, ‘Peace’ specifically gets my attention. The ability for that child to quickly turn around in humility and run to her safe space offered her peace. She trusted her mum and it was evident when she ran to her scared. Baby girl did not try to put on a bold face, or get over the fright she was feeling first. She did not stall and try to analyze whey she felt the way she did first. She did not try to fix up before going to mama, and I sense this is the point I’m to convey to you today – Listen, life gets overwhelming and people get scared. People get intimidated by all the demands placed on them, it’s expected but we have a solution – Run to Your Father! You do not need to clean up first to go to your safe house. You don’t. This is the benefit of sonship – access.

Run to Your Father!
You do not need to clean up first to go to your safe house. You don’t.
This is the benefit of sonship – access.

I told you I wouldn’t be long today, and I meant it. I just want to remind you of your place in God. when you accept Jesus as Lord and saviour, you are a SON. You are His CHILD. Paul said it well – “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”  For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.“{Rom 8:15-16}

Jesus said “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Go to Him AS you are burdened and offload there. Do not deprive yourself of the privilege and gift you have in Him.
The words written by the great Joseph M. Scriven in the now popular Hymn “What a friend we have in Jesus” ring so so true. He said ;

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
  All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
  Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
  O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
  Everything to God in prayer!

You do not need to carry the weight by yourself friend. You do not need to confront fear by yourself. You’ve got help! Employ your help! I pray that we are all quick to emulate that little child and humbly run to the father with every concern. Our God has an untarnished track record, He can be trusted.

If you do not profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour;
I have never done this before on a blog post, but it doesn’t get more dire than this and I have it on my heart to invite you, yes you, into relationship with Christ. If you do not know Him, my goodness, He is the best thing that ever happened to me, and He will be for you too. God loves us so much that He sent His son to die for us – to pay the penalty of our sins and offer us freedom and eternal life in Him. Accepting this free gift, and accepting Jesus as Lord and saviour is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Scripture tells us that all you need to do is believe in your heart that Christ is risen from the dead, and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and you will be saved. {Romans 10:9}

Dear Lord, I thank you for your child who has just made the best decision there is. I thank you for being a dependable and reliable father. I pray that you will strengthen him/her and open the eyes of their understanding as they grow to know you more and more. Beautify their lives and use them for your glory. in Jesus name. Amen.

Thank you for reading, I hope today’s post encouraged you.
I love you but God Loves You More 💕
