Watch Your Words

Hey you, I hope you are well. I’m thankful that you’ve taken the time to meet me here, but more importantly, it is my prayer that you meet God here. I pray that He speaks to you in a way that is directly applicable to your life, here and now. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Another week, Another Word by the Grace of God. Today’s post is a little different as it’ll be a massively condensed version of the podcast episode I just uploaded this week. On the podcast, I speak more in depth about this topic and highlight some interesting Biblical references and revelations. This probably goes without saying, but I strongly recommend you take some time to listen, I believe it’ll bless you, it certainly blessed me. I’ve also added a poem of mine at the end of this post that perfectly syncs up with today’s topic, this same poem was read out at the end of the pod episode.

Though today’s post is on a lesson that transcends this current season, I’m certain there is a spotlight on it now. Lately, there has been a heavy emphasis on the words that we speak to me, and I’ve taken time to meditate on it. In the same vein, as the Lord revealed certain things to me in scripture, He confirmed His word through others as is His custom. It was very evident to me that this was a word that needed to be shared on the day I decided to record on this topic on my podcast. That same day, during one of my evening programs, a guest pastor confirmed a revelation I had gotten only two days prior. That same day, my devotional was titled “Upgrade Your words”. Again, on that same day, the scripture of the day was “Let this book of the law never depart from your mouth…” All very much in tune with what the Lord had been highlighting.

And so, I said to myself, “It literally couldn’t be any clearer“, but guess what? Since I actually recorded it and put the audio episode out, I can’t seem to not see this message everywhere. It is clearer! Suddenly, it’s on the reels, in the sermons, in random youtube vids I’m watching. I say all of that to say, it is very obvious to me that the Lord is highlighting this Word, and it’s not just for me – it’s for His people. He wants you to have a blossoming life, part of the responsibility to attain that result lies in your tongue.

God wants you to have a blossoming life.
Part of the responsibility to attain that result lies in your tongue.

Now hold up! This is not about just speaking what you want and “manifesting” things. This is not wishful thinking, amiss affirmations or random confessions , no no no, not at all. This is about aligning your speech with God’s. What does God say about you and about that situation? Have you ignorantly or unconsciously spoken death over what He spoke life to? Are you partnering with God in speech to see His good will for you made manifest in your life? Have your emotions gotten a hold of your tongue and subsequently, the course of your life? Is God or your feelings the deciding factor of what proceeds out of your mouth?

What many of us do not realize is that we may have spoken ourselves into bondage. Words that we come into agreement with could be curses that produce death in certain aspects of our life. In ignorance, we may have made flippant statements like “I can’t___”, “I’ll never be able to __”, “___ will never happen for me”, “I’m too____ for that”, “I’m not ___ enough for that”…. fill in the gap.
Please do not believe the lie that “it is not that deep”. My friend, it is. God is absolutely more powerful than any of us and is above it all, but we need to understand that He gave us power and authority in our speech…He did that!
Whatever it is that you may have said, not to worry, the blood of Jesus is more than strong enough to blot it out, You need only to use it.

So here’s my advice to you, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you curses you may have spoken knowingly or unknowingly, and words that you came into agreement with, outside of His will. Once He reveals them to you, first take three simple steps – Repent, Revoke, and Renounce, in the name of Jesus. Plead His blood to blot out every ill word you spoke or came into agreement with concerning your life and that of your loved ones, and watch the curse be broken. Watch evil covenants shatter and conditions be reversed. The name and blood of Jesus are potent. But please do not stop there, remember, not only is the power of death in your tongue, but so is that of life. So speak life over yourself in alignment with the word of God. Final step – Replace. Do not leave a vacuum. I repeat, do not leave a vacuum.

When the Holy Spirit reveals an ill word you came into agreement with;
Repent, Revoke, Renounce and Replace.
Align your speech with the Word of God, and do not leave a vacuum.

Before we wrap this up, I need to highlight one very crucial point. The words that you speak have roots, so it is imperative that we do not focus solely on fixing symptoms but instead, we dig down to remediate, or resolve the issue at its very core. The Bible says “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks”. Jesus said that. In other words, the words you speak or spoke reveal a heart posture or state. So, the resolution requires more than the course-correction of words. It requires heart-work. If you struggle in speech, seek the Lord to purify your heart. And as He does that, yield to the Holy Spirit as He bears self-control in you. Choose Fruit (of the Spirit) over feelings. You’ve got this, cause God’s got you.

Aligning your words with God’s requires more than course-correction of speech.
It requires purification of the heart.

“out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” {MAT 12:24}

Here’s a poem over a decade old that still rings today.

Now today’s post was short because this is a packed topic, and with the amount of insight the Holy Spirit gifted me to share, it could not fit into a blog post. So, I’ve linked the podcast episode here! I have embedded the Youtube video below but if you’re more of an audio podcast person, not to worry, you can listen to it on your fave podcast platform here!

I hope today’s episode blessed you. I love you, and God loves you more!
