Some time ago, I had a series of very intense and vivid dreams that highlighted the subtlety of open doors and the power of agreement. In the first dream, there was a couple discussing core values and principles that they wanted to be aligned on. The man had about twelve beliefs which directly opposed principles for godly living according to God’s Word. Out of those twelve, though the lady was not particularly Christian, she took issue with eleven of those and stood her ground in alignment with the will and principles of God. However, there was one issue out of the twelve to which she acquiesced.
In the dream, I had this deep inner knowing that the singular belief which she chose to agree with her significant other on was a gateway for the enemy. I knew it to be an open door because doing things contrary to God’s will is agreement with the devil in essence. Every belief we hold and action we engage in serves an agenda and perhaps, a kingdom. Eph 2 tells us that those that refuse to obey God are obeying the devil. To take that even a step further, sometimes that action is inaction! Typical example of this is when Jesus compared doing nothing(not healing on sabbath) to evil whilst insinuating that proceeding to heal was good in this context (This is seen in Mark 3:4. I recommend you read the whole chapter). This is just to highlight the point that every area in which we are not in alignment and partnership with God is an area where we are in partnership with the devil…knowingly or unknowingly. It’s a tough pill to swallow, I know. But this is not the crux of today’s post.
Back to that first dream… While I didn’t get the impression that the woman in the relationship was a Christian, some of her stances and core beliefs were godly and biblically sound. I have learnt that non-believers can still enjoy some benefits that come from abiding by godly wisdom if they give themselves to it. A classic example is the instruction to walk with the wise and become wise[Prov 13:20], this is applicable to any and everyone. Or even the verse that says “A soft answer turns away wrath“[Prov 15:1], believer or not, this applies. So, in this dream, this woman was in alignment with God on many fronts but one which presented some danger. Though there were many other couples in the room in my dream, there was emphasis on this couple and the singular agreement between them (which was against God’s principles) that was an access point for the devil.
Now, this dream was so clear and vivid whilst also being full of symbolism… I can’t say I’ve ever had a dream quite like this one before. Though it would appear that my dream was just about couples’ agreements and disagreements on the surface, I woke up knowing exactly what it meant ( Full credit to the divine wisdom of the Holy ghost). The Lord was teaching me about subtle access points and the need to screen our agreements. All it takes is one agreement with the enemy to keep you stuck and bound. Just One. But before I expound on this, let me share a second and final dream.
Subsequently(literally the next night), I had another dream in which I had caused a minor car accident damaging the car in front of me. The driver of the car I had damaged sought to settle the issue quickly and amicably without involving insurance, so they got the damage to their car assessed and brought me the bill. {Btw, calling insurance after any car accident is not necessarily enforced as legal process everywhere in the world. Just so your mind doesn’t brand this as illegal lol. Not the point}. The precise price they quoted is irrelevant, but let me just say that price wasn’t sitting right with your girl …my wallet wasn’t having it. I had tried hard to negotiate for a better deal but sincerely, the sheer exhaustion of it all strongly tempted me to just give in at many points.
I wanted the whole thing resolved quickly, but the damage was really minor and the charge just wasn’t making sense. Though I was certain I was getting ripped off, it still took a lot for me to keep fighting the quote. After some time, I went ahead to withdraw the requested amount and right before paying up, I decided once more to try for a bargain. I pocketed a little less than half of the money and pleaded with him to accept my offer. Eventually, after much back and forth, he accepted my offer and I got to save almost half of the initial quote. Though this seems like a very abstract dream, the lesson here was simple — What you agree to will cost you.
What you agree to will cost you.
The entirety of our walk as disciples of Christ Jesus revolves around agreements though we may not know it. When we accept the free gift of salvation, we agree with God’s wisdom to save us by the death and resurrection of His Son. We enter into covenant with God through Jesus. After we are saved, we are called to walk out a sanctification process in which we are transformed by the renewing of our minds[Rom 12:2]. The call to renew our minds simply refers to getting acquainted with God’s stance on a matter(His will) AND agreeing with it. That agreement should then result in alignment which ultimately births transformation in us. Okay maybe that was a mouthful, you might need to read that again.
The call to walk with Jesus requires agreement with Him. It is when you choose to agree with Him that you align with Him by putting your belief to action. Let me add here that this is not a one time thing. As we grow in our knowledge of our saviour and we get insight and revelation on His character and His will, we are required to continually come into agreement with the new revelation we have. If you accept Jesus as Lord, it means you submit to His rule – you agree that His way is the best and your life is best when lived in His will.
The call to renew our minds simply refers to getting acquainted with God’s stance on a matter(His will) AND agreeing with it.
You see, after that first dream, I began to think of some subtle agreements we make that gives the enemy access in our lives and the first that stood out to me was fear. It’s wild how we can ‘submit’ our lives to God, believe and align with Him on ‘99%’ of His will, but that 1% where we agree with fear grants the enemy legal access to stagnate us. You believe God is mighty, that He has great plans for your life, that He has assigned you to a task or a people, that He chose you … but your covenant or agreement with fear keeps you from functioning in all that you have received a revelation of. I thought to myself — I wonder how many generational curses and bloodline issues have trickled down because those called to break the chain bowed to fear. It’s no wonder that the instruction “Do not fear” is recorded multiple times in the Bible. We are explicitly told that the Spirit of fear and timidity is not from God, so who are we agreeing with when we let fear lead? Are you in agreement with the spirit of fear?
Covenants with fear keep men from functioning in all that they have received a revelation of.
Fear was just one example but there are so many agreements we come into that become access points for the enemy to legally have room in our lives. Another spelt out in scripture that comes to mind is anger – James 1:20 tells us that human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. In Ephesians, Paul admonishes us to not give in to anger and sin for this gives the devil a foothold![Eph 4:27] A foothold is like a small crack in the door that becomes room for things to creep in. When we choose to hold on to anger in even just one out a hundred relationships we may have, that one is enough to create distance between us and the Father. It’s enough to hinder us from receiving the mercy of God[Mat 6:15]. With untreated anger comes unforgiveness which drags along bitterness and resentment along all because of the little room you gave anger to dwell.
While some agreements that cause us to live beneath our call are obviously with ungodly spirits, some masquerade as counsel from those who have our ear. Even with good intentions, men who judge solely by logic can actively encourage you to disobey God’s instruction to you with ‘reasonable’ justification. In Daniel 3, we see that Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego were given another opportunity to bow to idols and save their lives. King Nebuchadnezzar advised that they take that chance, and if they did not know God’s will in the matter, they would have considered it the logical thing to do since their own lives were at risk. But, at the heart of this counsel was pride and idolatry and they knew better than to agree with the idea that men should worship created things. Knowing the heart and spirit behind the counsel we accept is so critical as it can impact the trajectory of our lives. A prime example of this can be seen in the story of King Rehoboam in 1 Kings 12. Rehoboam chose to heed the counsel of younger unwise advisers and this ended up causing a rebellion of his people.
In Exodus 32, Aaron listened to the counsel of the Israelites to create an idol out of impatience and this resulted mass murder! Even closer to home, Amnon listened to his ‘friend‘ and cousin, Jonadab, and this ended in his own death[2 Sam 13]. Who we listen to matters and probably even more importantly, who we agree with matters! You do not want to come into agreement with counsel that endorses wickedness, impatience, idolatry and even selfish ambition. Does that which you are agreeing with bear the fruit of the spirit? If the answer is no, you don’t want any covenant with it. James tells us that jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom but the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.[James 3:17].
So far, we’ve zeroed into the necessity of breaking ungodly agreements, but just as important is the need to Agree With God. In the same way that ungodly agreements will rob you, Godly agreements will launch you. Godly agreements will allow you to enter into all that God designed you to be – fearless, courageous, bold, wise, fruitful, forgiving, kind, loving…the list goes on and on. To be clear, this does not mean that you do not pay a price for agreeing with God – scripture tells us to count the cost. It does mean however that your agreement with God earns you that which God calls an abundant life, a life full of fulfillment and satisfaction because you are living according the the script written by God for your life. Your agreement with God allows the full expression of God’s Spirit within you in every area of your life, and it is glorious. When we do not agree with God, we suppress Holy Spirit within us and stifle His expression. Becoming all that the Lord has intended for us to be requires that we engage the mind of Christ in us by agreeing with God.
In the same way that ungodly agreements will rob you,
Godly agreements will launch you.
There is a story in the Bible(Num 13&14) where God sends some of the Israelites to go and scout the promised land. After they went, all but two of them (Joshua and Caleb) came back with a bad report. The people confirmed that it is indeed a beautiful, bountiful land but they didn’t stop there – they disqualified themselves from entering it because of how they saw themselves. They went on to say that the people there were giants, stronger than them and they could not go up against them. In fact, they said they felt like grasshoppers beside them. These people let fear rule them and they came into agreement with warped narrative that fear showed them. On the other hand, there was Joshua and Caleb who put their trust and confidence in God and the Lord honoured them for this by allowing them to enter the promise land. They came into agreement with the truth that they are able to do all things with the backing of the Lord. Their self-confidence was fuelled by their ‘Godfidence‘. They had a godly understanding of their identity and ability being fully dependent on God. Their agreement with God allowed them to receive what God had in store for them.
Other people like Moses and Gideon had a low view of themselves(low self esteem you might say), but they eventually took God for His Word and the result of their confidence in God is still being spoken about today. Moses saw himself as poor in speech, in fact he begged God to pick someone else but when he finally agreed with God and trusted Him as His source, it completely changed the game and he grew in confidence. Moses is one of the patriarchs of the faith till today. Gideon also had a low view of himself while the angel of the Lord saw something in him that Gideon didn’t. He called him “mighty man of valour”… a man that said he was from the weakest clan and the least in his family. His life changed when he decided to agree with God(Judges 6).
If there’s one key thing to take from the dreams, it’s the knowledge that all it takes is one ungodly agreement(a chink in your armour) to give the devil access (legal grounds) to work in your life, fruit and situation. It takes one agreement to leave you vulnerable and compromised. ‘Ungodly’ simply means unlike God. Something like an agreement with spirit of fear, in spite of how many godly agreements you’ve made, gives the enemy access to stifle, stagnate and manipulate every other sector of your life. Again, what you agree to will cost you. What you agree to, you effectively collaborate with. Collaborations with fear birth stagnation. In like manner, collaborations with human anger birth unrighteousness. Suffice to say that the fruit of any ungodly agreement is never good(though God redeems), so it’s imperative that we assess our beliefs and come out of ungodly covenants.
What you agree to, you effectively collaborate with.
Beloved, when you downplay the power of agreement in one area of your life just because you’ve guarded all areas of your life, it’s akin to leaving a crack in the door open at night and hoping mosquitos won’t come in since all the windows are shut. While this may bear little to no significance if you live abroad in a climate where this isn’t an issue, people in Nigeria know just how futile such reasoning is; that little crack in the door can undo all that was done to guard against mosquitos. Similarly, while you might proclaim the truth in your life and agree with God’s word on multiple fronts and in numerous areas of your life, the exceptions are access points. May the Lord reveal to us where we have given the enemy room to work because of our agreements.
I hope that today’s post blessed you and was as enlightening to you as it was for me.
As Always, I love you and God loves you more.
Catch you in the next post 💕
Pray With Me:
Lord, please show me where I’ve made covenants that are outside your will and way. I come out of agreement with any demonic spirit – fear and others. I reject and revoke anything not in alignment with the power of God, the presence of God and the principles of God right now in the mighty name of Jesus. Help me to agree and align with you on all fronts so that I become all that you have intended for me to be. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
The Most important Agreement
The first and most agreement you need to make is with the wisdom of God embodied in the cross by accepting Jesus as your Lord and saviour. Scripture tells us that all we need to do is believe in our hearts that Christ is risen from the dead, and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, and we will be saved. {Romans 10:9}. Accepting this free gift, and accepting Jesus as Saviour and Lord is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Don’t miss another moment without this gift. Take a moment to pray, ask God to reveal Himself to you. Confess your belief, submit and watch Him move.
Dear Lord, I thank you for your child who has just made the best decision there is. I thank you for being a dependable and reliable father. I pray that you will strengthen your child and open the eyes of their understanding as they grow to know you more and more. Beautify their lives and use them for your glory. In Jesus name’, Amen.
