‘Walk With Me’

Listen to the Audio blog here 👆🏾✨

Hey you. Thank you for meeting me here. I hope you are well and thriving. It is my prayer that you are even better, uplifted and more encouraged after today’s read. So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

‘Walk with me’ – Three words I was not expecting to hear at the time. Some time ago, following a faith move of mine, I was seeking the Lord for strategy and guidance on what to do in this new season. I had an unspoken expectation of what the Lord’s response would look like. I had thought that perhaps, I’d come away from my prayer time with a structured plan, step-by step instructions, a map and directions, maybe even a timetable. Well, not quite. What I got from Him was the simple instruction: ‘walk with me’.  Suffice to say it wasn’t quite what I was expecting or going for, but despite me pressing in, it’s what I got which tells me that it’s what I need(ed). So, I began to ponder and inquire of the Lord – what exactly does this mean practically for this season? And that’s what I’m eager to share with you today.

Let me start here to give some background – This season of my life is strongly founded on active faith. Granted, faith should always be active, but we have the tendency to dissolve it to a feeling alone. Yes, you and I believe, but what does that produce in our lives? Is the fear of failure stronger than your belief? Is your faith seen in your steps? James said it well, he said faith without good deeds is useless[Jm 2:17]. He pointed out the fact that even the demons believe there is one God and shudder[v.19]. Ultimately, it is what your faith produces that will set you apart.

Being able to say that I’m in a season strongly founded on faith is an admirable and appealing thing to say — the way it feels on the other hand is incredibly daunting. Feeling like you don’t know what’s next isn’t exactly a place one craves to be in. If you’ve made big faith moves in your life with much at stake, you probably know exactly what I mean. So, when the Lord said to walk with Him in this new season, it felt foggy and vague. I’m already committed to walking with the Lord on a daily basis, it’s the call of a disciple of Christ. I’m certain the instruction to “Keep in step with the Spirit” is plastered somewhere in my memory forever ready for recall. So why was this  the instruction specifically the strategy for this season then? And that’s when the Lord began to give me revelation.

My mind was instantly cast back to different points in scripture where men were said to have walked with God. For starters, Enoch walked with God faithfully and God took him(Gen 5:23). Noah walked with God(Gen 6:9) and in so doing, he was saved from the annihilation which came by flood. But even more to the point, his walk with God is what enabled him to work with God. In Noah’s faithful walk with the Lord, he received very precise instructions from God on what and how to build. His proximity and alignment with God gave him precision because he was able to receive details required to build an ark that would accomplish its purpose. Not only was this ark to be a shelter for him, but it was a haven for his family, their family, and the animals. Because he was in tune with the Lord, he successfully built according to design.

Your proximity to God will breed precision

I have much to say, but I don’t think I could articulate this any better than the Lord gave it to me. So, I invite you to have a glimpse into my journal.

#JournalEntry
I sensed the Lord say:

Walk with me. When you walk with me, you’ll get work done.
You’ll be close enough to hear my instructions.
I had the disciples walk with me, and on their way, they got work done. We got work done.
We healed. We preached.
In their walking with me, I equipped them for the work I sent them out to do.

Noah walked with me, so much so that he heard my instructions to build the ark.
It was his proximity to me that enabled his precision.
Enoch walked with me.
Moses walked with me.
I’m calling you to walk with me.
Stay beside me, in step with me, and fruit is inevitable.
Proximity and Obedience.

Walk with me. We’ll ride the waves.
When you walk with me, we’ll do the ‘impossible’.

You know someone else who comes to mind when I think of employing proximity and fellowship(walking with God) as a strategy for results? Elisha. I cannot get over how this man always seemed to know exactly what to do to deal with every problem he was tasked with. Unlike the way the interactions between God and Moses are elaborately detailed in scripture during major events like instructions on how to build the tabernacle[Ex 26], designs for priestly clothing[Ex 28] and strategy for deliverance from snakes[Num 21:8] amongst many others, we don’t particularly have insight word-for-word on what God said to Elisha before he performed each miracle.

Between 2 Kings 2 and 5, we already see many miracles that were performed by strategies that make no sense to the human mind. I don’t know about you but I am unable to logically make sense of many instructions that Elisha gave and the results they yielded. No doubt about the fact that it could only have been God. Logically, a spring of water is not purified by simply pouring a bowl of salt in it[2 Kings 2:19-22]. Logically, dipping in some river seven times shouldn’t magically cure a man of leprosy[2 Kings 2:13-14]. Logically, throwing a stick into the water should not cause a heavy metal to float to the top[2 Kings 6 :5-7], and logically, flour should not neutralize poison in food[2 Kings 4:39-41]. I think it’s worth noting also that all of these issues and subsequent miracles aren’t necessarily things a person plans for in a new season. These were sudden circumstantial events that required immediate instructions. Ahhfsdfhk! This hit like a fresh revelation, my God! There is a no playbook for the pivot!

There is no playbook for the pivot.

There are times where you do not get precise directions on what to do and where to turn because where you think you’re going isn’t actually where you’ll go! Times where the “direction” from the Holy spirit is simply Stay Close. This is to say, ‘what you’ll need for where you’re going will be with me, and as long as you’re with me, you’ll have what you need‘. Lord have mercy. Well, my idea of my new season ended up being disrupted really quickly after my step of faith. I found myself bringing my heart before the Lord. This is not what I thought you would have for me Lord. This looks nothing like I envisioned. Ohhh, is that why the instructions you gave me seemed strange? Oh Lord, you knew… I get it now. This was a pivot, and the principle to progress in this season was proximity. That’s it… ‘Walk with me’. Suddenly, my journal entry made sense. Hmm, what a kind God. Because I could not see ahead, I was in a position that required full dependency on Him and He had invited me to do just that. He knew.

With most pivots, the principle to progress is proximity.

I reckon that this post is getting too long so I’ll end this here. However, the conversation I had with God which I desire to let you in on did not end here. On that note, I’ll be back next week for the continuation so keep an eye out for “Walk with me Pt. 2”. I truly believe it’ll bless you.

Before you go, I want to encourage you with this : God knows what He’s doing and He knows exactly what you need for where you’re headed. Like Abraham, trust God enough to go to a land that He will show you. Be okay with not having the full picture. Be okay with cultivating intimacy with your father as you rely and depend on Him for your next steps. Do you trust Him to lead you every step of the way? If yes, then stay close. I’ll say it again, your proximity to God will breed precision. If no, honesty is a great place to start. Ask the Lord to help you trust Him and as you do, be ready and willing to take that leap of faith.

I love you. Abba loves you more. 💕
Catch you in the next blog post and don’t forget to walk with your father.
